School Organisation

Composite Classes

At Matamata Primary we focus on meeting the individual needs of students so pupils are grouped in the New Zealand Curriculum achievement bands of Level 1 (Year 1and 2), Level 2 (Year 3 and 4), Level 3 (Year 5 and 6).

In these composite class groupings we are able to provide learning programmes for the Curriculum Level of that age group and cater for different stages of students within each level.

House System

There are four houses: Rimu (Red), Totara (Green), Miro (Blue) and Kauri (Orange). Where possible, children from the same family are placed in the same house. House groups are headed by House Captains and they assist with the smooth running of sports and cultural events, as well as the organisation of school duties for senior students.
