Learning Environment

Matamata Primary is set in mature, well kept grounds with extensive playing fields and educational facilities.  Learning is our core business.  At Matamata Primary we are committed to providing quality child centred programmes that both challenge and support students.  We have designed a broad and balanced education programme that caters for the academic, physical, social, and cultural needs of each student. 

In addition to the core programmes Matamata Primary offers a range of other specialist  modules which are implemented by specialist teachers and supported by teacher aides and volunteers including:

  • Early Intervention Programmes – Reading Recovery, Literacy support groups, Numeracy boost
  • Gifted and Talented Programmes – Leadership groups, Digital projects
  • Representative Sports tournaments for Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Football, Swimming, Cross-country, and Athletics
  • Performing Arts – School band, Choir, Annual School Production,

Bi-annual Art Exhibition, Kapahaka, Dance Shows, Community group performances

  • Extra curricula sports – Summer and Winter Interschool sports, Rippa Rugby, Miniball, Touch Rugby, Biathlon, Triathlon, Gymnastics
  • Cultural Activities – Agricultural Days, Outdoor Education,  Religious Instruction, Tikanga Maori,
  • Specialised Music Tuition – After School Guitar, Recorder, Singing,
  • Language classes – English as a Second Language, Te Reo Maori
  • External exams – ICAS, Online Science Challenge
