MOE Attendance

The Ministry of Education (MOE) currently enforce a national policy requiring students to maintain an annual school attendance rate of at least 80% to be eligible to represent their school in extracurricular events. 

The Bigger Picture: While 80% is the baseline, the government’s long-term goal for kura and schools is to have 80% of students attending more than 90% of the time (missing fewer than five days per term).  We currently have 144 students who don’t meet this goal.

If your attendance drops below 80% non-compulsory extracurricular activities are placed on hold until the attendance rate returns to a satisfactory threshold.

At MPS we acknowledge that at times there are significant medical issues or family reasons that can cause this.  If this is the case you are encouraged to meet with the Glenn (principal@mmps.school.nz) and apply for a dispensation.  This usually requires committing to an attendance plan and demonstrating a period of significant improvement.

We recognise that this is a challenging issue at present and sincerely appreciate your continued support in ensuring our learners (when well) are able to attend school regularly.  Your support is invaluable in enabling us to provide the highest possible standard of teaching and learning for all our students.

Pizza Days & Cross Country BBQ

Kindo is now taking orders for our two pizza days this term as well as a sausage sizzle on Cross Country day.

The first pizza day is this coming Thursday, please order by 10:30 am Wednesday. We can’t accept late orders. If you would like to pay cash you can visit the office with your order, exact change is preferred and the cut off of 10:30 am Wednesday is the same. 

Pizza days 6 August and 17 September 

Sausage sizzle 25 August (cut off for orders is Friday 21 August at 3 pm for the sausage sizzle.

We have identified some dead branches in the trees along the driveway into the caretaker’s shed on Hohaia Street. The arborist has been informed and we are waiting for them to come and remove these.

Please avoid using this entrance in and out of school until this is resolved.
