KIA ORA AND WELCOME

Matamata Primary School is located in the heart of the Waikato, a town overlooked by the Kaimai Ranges and surrounded by rivers that flow through rolling green hills. Here we have created a nurturing environment that enables our children to learn and prosper across all aspects of education and development. Our guiding principles centre on our motto ‘Endeavour, Achieve Excel – Tohenga, Taea, Tino Hira. Together with support of our community and engagement of whanau, we deliver a platform that inspires learning to help build and shape our future generations.

Welcome

Sickness
24 Jun 2025

As we move into the colder months we see a rise in the number of children unwell. While attendance is important for all students, it is also important to ensure children who are unwell are given the time to recover from any illness and that we protect the wellbeing of other students and our staff. We have provided the following for parents and caregivers to use when making a decision on whether to send a child(ren) to school. If your child is unwell or you are concerned about your child's wellbeing we encourage you to contact your usual healthcare provider or call Heathline on 0800 611 116 which is a free service.

GREENPARK SPORTS EXCHANGE YEAR 3-6
24 Jun 2025

This is happening at MPS tomorrow. All relevant information and times were outlined on the permission form your child would have returned last week if they are involved. Some of this information is also copied below if you have misplaced the form.

Students will go to class as per usual when the bell rings at 8:55am, they will then be called to the Hall later in the morning.

School Leaders will be selling peach and raspberry flavoured fizzy water for $3 and Popsicle ice blocks for $2 for students that are involved in the exchange. A stall will be set up on the back field by the black PE Shed. Hockey players will have a chance to purchase these when they return from the College.

Sports shirts are being issued today, if your child still has a shirt outstanding, they won't be issued a new one.

Please note: Hockey players will now be bused down to the College via the Greenpark School buses upon arrival to MPS. The original newsletter said they would walk. They will also be bused back to MPS after their games.

Your child will be required to bring a small plate of food to contribute to our shared kai. We ask that this is food that has little to no preparation for us as we will be out on the sports fields prior to lunch. Your child can drop their plate off to the Hall before school on the morning of the exchange. If you provide something that is allergy friendly, such as; gluten free, nut free, egg free etc, could you please kindly label it for us.

Students will need:
- Warm clothes (change of clothes)
- Rain jacket
- Towel
- Footwear for their sport (except rugby)
- Morning tea
- Named water bottle
- Mouthguards (rugby, hockey)
- Shin pads (football, hockey)
- Hockey stick (hockey)
- MPS sports shirt
- Personal medication such as inhalers
- Small change if they wish to purchase fizzy water or ice blocks

Times for the day:

Round 1 10:15am-11:15am: All year 3/4 sports (except Dodgeball)
Round 2 11:15am-12:15pm: All year 5/6 sports (except Dodgeball)
Round 3 12:15pm-1:15pm: Year 3/4 & year 5/6 Dodgeball
Lunch and farewell 1:15pm

Rugby, Football, Miniball and Dodgeball will all be played at MPS. Netball will be played at the Netball Centre and Hockey will be played at the College Turf.
You are welcome to come down and support and cheer MPS on!

Thanks
Mrs Bateman
