SCHOOL HOUSES

Four houses within the school creates unity under identity. Here children learn team values and competitive environments, as they race up the leader board in their proud colours.

Miro House

THE MIRO AND THE KERERU

The native Miro berry is a favourite of the Kereru (NZ wood pigeon). Where there is a Miro tree a Kereru is never far away, this is evident on the school grounds.

Tōtara House

THE TŌTARA AND THE TUI

Tōtara is a native tree which produces berries. Most associate the Tui (NZ endemic passerine bird) with the nectar of the Kōwhai flower, but it is the Tōtara berry which the Tui cannot resist.

Rimu House

THE RIMU AND THE KĀKĀPŌ

Rimu is a native tree with an importance to the rejuvenation of the endangered Kākāpō (NZ owl parrot). The berry of the Rimu helps bring the bird into reproduction, an essential fruit for the future of this species.

Kauri House

THE KAURI AND THE KAKA

The Kauri is a native tree from the pine family, like most pines it grows a cone. The Kākā bird (NZ forest parrot) with it’s strong beak is one of the only birds that has the ability to crack into the Kauri pine and eat the seeds.

There are four houses Rimu (Green), Totara (Red), Miro (Blue) and Kauri (Yellow). The children from the same family are placed in the same house. House groups are headed by House Leaders and they assist with the smooth running of sports and cultural events, as well as the organisation of school duties for Senior students.
